What is Small Side Soccer?

Small side soccer is played with teams of 5, 6 or 7 a side and is now the most popular format of the beautiful game in the UK. Games are typically played on outdoor Astroturf pitches or in traditional sports halls. General rules follow the Laws of association football, with a few exceptions helping to make the game faster more exciting and free flowing.

Historically small side soccer has typically involved a group of mates having a game of five a side down the local sports hall, but now with the increasing number of improved facilities and professional league organisers the game has become more and more advanced.

Often played at a fast pace the short game format is ideal for all fitness levels.

Short Seasons
Seasons will last approximately 14 weeks at which point you can choose if you want to remain in the league for the new season which usually follows straight after.

Divisions
Where possible teams are placed in divisions with teams of similar abilities. 1 or 2 teams from each division are promoted/ relegated at the end of each season.

Flexible Squads
New players can be drafted in throughout the season.

A local small side league is the ideal social event for everyone and attracts teams from local business, pubs, groups, charities, organisations, hospitals, sixth forms etc along with regular football clubs. It generates interest within the entire workplace, pub etc giving everyone a common bond improving team spirit and camaraderie.
